Good morning! Today I will be answering a lot of the questions we have been asked about our hosting of Julia. We are ALWAYS happy to answer any questions! So here are the few we have been asked several times already......what other questions do you have for us?!
Is Julia her real name?
Short answer: No.
Long Answer: We were first introduced to her as Julia so we continue to call her that. Her Ukrainian name is the Ukrainian equivalent to that, or as close as it gets. Her real name is quite beautiful and we will call her whatever she prefers. In fact, I can't wait to find out her preference so I can paint letters for her room, just like we did for C.
How expensive is it?
Short Answer: $5,700+ expenses while she is here
Long Answer: So there are two trips. Julia will be coming for 6 weeks this summer and then again over Christmas break for another 5 weeks. Each trip is $2,700 and then we had to do a home study for $300. Luckily she was given a $1,000 scholarship by her previous host family so that will be a great help. When she gets here we will have to pay for our trip to Washington, D.C. to pick her up as well as any clothing and living expenses while she is here.
How can I help?
Two things: BE EXCITED FOR US and PRAY FOR US. This is a huge leap of faith for us. We know it! There is definitely no room for negativity or discouragement in this. We appreciate when people love us and want the best for us but we have made this decision and are ecstatic about it, so we would appreciate people respecting that.
Beyond that, I want to make it clear that while we are ridiculously appreciative of everything everyone does or gives or helps with or participates in, we do not want anyone to ever feel obligated to do so! If you feel called to participate in any way, we are ever so grateful. But if you do not want to or are not able to, we understand!! And we appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
It has been very hard finding that balance of letting everyone know what is going on with all of the events and not feeling like we are pressuring anyone or expecting and feeling entitled to anything.
